In 2018, JR worked with TIME Magazine to create the cover for an issue about the gun debate in America.
For this project, JR visited Dallas, Saint Louis, and Washington DC. He photographed 245 people who represent a wide spectrum of views on guns in the United States. Capturing stories of doctors, politicians, school teachers, gun collectors, law enforcement officials, and activists, among others, JR created a stunning mural that is as intricate and complex as the subject itself.
With this piece, JR pursues his vision of art as a tool for bringing people together. Rather than taking a position, his work creates a space for understanding and collaboration. After being photographed, each participant shared their opinion and relationship to guns - these stories can be heard on the free app JR:murals, available for iPhone and Android. The result is a profound work of art that invites viewers to confront different viewpoints and question their own perceptions.
To celebrate its fifth anniversary, JR is proud to release a new lithograph The Gun Chronicles: A Story of America, USA, 2022. A captivating black-and-white composition enriched with contemporary stories, this limited edition is the first of its kind.
