Description

At the Port of Le Havre, JR concluded his Women Are Heroes project in 2014. On the Maggelan, a container ship, he pasted a woman’s eyes that traveled around the world. JR regularly returns to the Port of Le Havre with ballerinas who dance in the space.

By confronting the delicate movement of a ballerina against the hard, industrial backdrop of the containers, JR creates a dialogue between two worlds that, at first glance, seem diametrically opposed. Ballerina in Containers, On the edge, Le Havre, France, 2023 draws a connection between the fine, precise movements in ballet and the repetitive, automatic gestures of the shipping world.

JR’s newest lithograph presents a new way of seeing the Port of Le Havre, showing it as a space for exchange, cultural mixing, and artistic creation.
